The government came up with the “Kazi kwa Vijana’, loosely translated as jobs for youth, but the initiative has since been bedeviled by many misdeeds. To begin with ,the jobs that are available to the youth are mainly manual in nature. The skilled jobs available in such an initiative are next to impossible. A college graduate that seeks jobs from the initiative may not find anything useful. Jobs that are provided under the initiative include; sweeping of roads, planting of trees and flowers and such like jobs. Such jobs however, do help the most vulnerable youth at least to find some little income. The Youth Affairs could have done better by supporting the youth in other ways. The youth fund has also not been very successful as the default rate among the youth is very high. Additionally, the requirement for the youth to be in groups really does discourage many people from applying for the loans. If you are lucky to get the youth loan approved, then you may have to wait for ages when the loan is approved.
