KCSE results 2010

The release of the KCSE results is usually greeted with jubilation and sadness in some quaters. This is usually the most important national exam that many students take in their life. It usually determines the college/university or the course that one will pursue. The first KCSE was done in 1989 after the introduction of 8-4-4.Previously; the country used the 7-4-2-3 system of education. Former President Moi changed the system of education ostensibly to inculcate practical skills in 8-4-4 graduates. The debate is still out on whether 8-4-4 has lived up to its billing. The first KCSE was topped by Naeem Samnakay, from the Alliance high school. He has since gone on to practice medicine in Australia. Even as the KCSE results 2010 will be released in a matter of weeks, the trend is not expected to change much. The same schools have been at the top for many years. It is perhaps for this reason that many parents routinely sacrifice everything in order for their children to attend top notch schools.
As one would expect, the KCSE results 2010 featured the usual top schools. The KCSE ranks are much like the English premier league, you know which schools are going to be at the top, the only difference will be their arrangement. Statistics seem to confirm this notion. A few schools such as the Alliance High school, Mang’u High School, Starehe Boys center&school, Precious Blood Girls Riruta routinely dominate the top slots year in year out. In fact, the top student in KCSE has been a student from a national school in all but two years. The only exceptions were in 2002(Paul Bundi, Kenyakine High school) and 2006(Dickens Omanga, Friends School Kamusinga.).Thus, KCSE results 2010 is not expected to differ much from the previous years.
