Kenyan Careers-Which are the best Kenyan careers to pursue in Kenya?

Which are currently the best careers to pursue in Kenya? Which careers command the highest salaries and social prestige? Some of the best Kenyan careers are listed below: (The careers are mainly mainstream/traditional and not the artistic ones such as musicians, painters, actors which depend on an individual’s exceptional talent)

-Doctors/health practitioners
Medicine careers are sure tickets to financial freedom and one of the reasons that all the sharpest minds the world over want to pursue it. The more you specialize, the more you are likely to earn. Further specializing makes you scarce and hence attract higher premiums.

-Finance
Careers in Finance are always going to be lucrative because you are dealing with money. Careers in Finance will enable one to work in the investment banking field, banks, accounts, insurance et all. There are many graduates but once you are lucky enough to secure that job, you will sure command some good salary.

-Marketing/Advertising/Sales
Each business/company must sell in order to stay afloat. It is for this reason that marketers are paid very highly. No matter how brilliant your product/service is, without proper marketing and selling, you are not going to go very far.

-Media/News anchors /Presenters
Even though you might think of media stations as news and information providers, in reality, media stations are effectively merchandisers of products and services. So, save for public broadcasters, the media are nothing more than marketers, helping promote company brands and products to the audience.Media professionals get paid a lot as a result of attracting the right audience numbers for the radio and TV stations. It is very hard to get into such careers since the media houses prefer experience above anything else. It is not unusual to get a six figure salary as a radio presenter/news anchor.

-IT programmers/Systems analyst/Network engineers.
We live in an information world and careers in the IT field are always going to command a good salary. Since there are thousands of graduates being churned out every year, you really have to stand out. It is also one area where you can get in without a degree so long as you prove that you are good technically. Plus you also get a sense of satisfaction when everyone in the office keeps asking to help fix their machine.

-Energy engineers
We all need energy and this area is growing rapidly as a source of jobs. Jobs in KenGen, KPLC, GDC and other energy companies would certainly pay well.

-Production engineers.
Production engineers are sorely needed in any manufacturing outfit and their roles overlap between technical/managerial.
The Kenyan careers listed above are by no means exhaustive but just a sample.

    1. Hi! My apologies for the late reply. I just don't your individual grades. You could select medical lab technology, or BSC Education Science or BSC General specializing in Physical sciences and then select either Math, statics or Chemistry in the third year.
