Reportedly, 12 UON students were given suspension letters for participating in the strike. You all remember the strike that happened a few days ago as the city was at a standstill for most of the afternoon. Most of the students that tend to get are the student leaders or anyone caught on camera. Knowing how campus strikes are, some of the students may have been caught in the crossfire. The rubble rousers could well have caused the strike and then quickly went home and watched the event from home. Being suspended from the University can be one of the most unfortunate things that can happen to a person. Previously, one was barred from enrolling in any of the Universities in Eastern Africa but this rule seems to have been relaxed some what as some students enroll for parallel programs. However, the students who could be affected the most are the ones that come from poor families as they cannot afford the high fees for parallel programs or private Universities.

Some UON students suspended for demo-Is that too harsh?
The other thing is that only academic days are counted. For instance, if you are suspended for two years, you will exclude weekends, public holidays and the university holidays. In real case, this may even be five years.
