Are the public Universities getting an unfair advantage over the private Universities?

The number of form four leavers continues increasing by the day. So too are the number of public and private Universities in the country. In fact, the education industry is one of the most lucrative sectors to invest in at the moment. The public Universities, previously cash strapped, have been lucky to have introduced the parallel degree course, which ahs acted as one of the main cash cows for the public institutions. The Universities are now implementing major projects, thanks in part to the funds available from the parallel degree program.

In a way also, the parallel degree program has affected the private Universities. They now have to compete with the public Universities for the students. This is despite the fact that the public Universities still rely on the government for some funding. Actually, the government allocates about kshs.70, 000 to each regular student per year. In addition, the lecturers are paid by the government, something which the private Universities cannot do. In the end, the private Universities are expected to charge the same fees as the public Universities. Is this really possible?
